Visit the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Careers Centre to find out about vacancies, apply for jobs, or register your interest in working for us in the future.
We welcome expressions of interest from talented people who can represent Kiwi sheep and beef farmers across our programme areas: farm, market, people and information. From time to time we also have vacancies in support roles, such as finance and communications.
Working for us
We're funded by sheep and beef farmers to support their collective interests – doing the work they can't do individually. Our work is broad and we have a global reach. It includes investment in research for the sector, supporting farmers' business capability, delivering independent information and knowledge that drives stronger farm performance, attracting and retaining talented people to the sector, and supporting market opportunities. And, we're farmers' voices, advocating for their licence to farm.
If working for farmers and contributing to New Zealand's economy appeals, and you're motivated by providing the best customer service, we'd love to hear from you.
Skills and qualities
The skill sets and people we look for are often unique. You'll need to be passionate, nimble and resourceful; have a can-do attitude, integrity and credibility - and great relationship building skills.
Flexible work arrangements
We recognise the differing needs of all our employees and offer flexible work arrangements.
Our regular staff awards acknowledge those whose commitment goes above and beyond in all aspects of their work and who 'walk the talk' in terms of living our values, innovating and helping others.
Learning and development
We know how important it is to have the opportunity to grow and develop – personally and professionally. At Beef + Lamb New Zealand feedback is a constant, with a regular focus on career aspirations, learning and development.
We value the retention of organisational knowledge and encourage internal promotion when opportunities arise. Funding is available for staff to attend study, training and conferences that will enhance their work.
Employee volunteer programme
Beef + Lamb New Zealand recognises it is the responsibility of a good employer to help strengthen the communities in which we live and work. Our employee volunteer programme gives staff paid leave to do voluntary work that benefits the primary sector.
We provide additional leave entitlements beyond the standard. You can take sick leave if you need to once you start, with no six-month stand-down and 10 sick days a year. You also get two extra days' holiday on top of four weeks' annual leave.
OOS care assessment
Within your first month we arrange for a workplace assessment and implement any changes needed to make sure you're comfortable while you're working.
You have the option of joining our discounted Southern Cross Group Scheme, and free eye tests are available after you've been with us for two years.
Exercise and health
A healthy, happy team is a productive team. We support our people to have a healthy lifestyle with team challenges and indoor sports teams – and a well-stocked fruit bowl. Staff in our Wellington head office enjoy the benefits of a fully equipped gym with an extensive range of modern cardio and weight equipment.
Employee Assistance Programme
You will have free access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), provided by Vitae. This provides counselling, trauma support, and assistance with work or personal issues.
Health and safety at work
Our proactive health and safety committee organises lunchtime speakers on health and wellness topics. We have a commitment to rehabilitation, and a safe driving policy that encourages our regional team members to do defensive driving courses.
At Beef + Lamb New Zealand, we reflect the people we work for – sheep and beef farmers – and we share their values of decency, hard work and innovation. We are proud of our heritage and driven by the future and our shared vision and values. We work closely with our farmer stakeholders and give a voice to their collective interests.
Collectively our team is passionate, hard-working, positive and open. We thrive on a challenge – which is lucky, as we are routinely presented with them!
